Assessor Training on C1-C5

Engineers need training to use the Technical Guidelines for Engineering Assessments (the Guidelines) so seismic assessments of existing buildings are carried out consistently throughout New Zealand.

The first short course on the Guidelines was held in November and December 2016 (see dates and locations below) introduced the updated Detailed Seismic Assessment methods. It covered the first four sections of Part C that are common to the specific material sections (C1, C2, C3 and C4) and the Concrete Buildings section (C5). The Registration brochure.

Course participants were expected to watch three videos before attending, which gave an introduction and overview of the assessment objectives and principles within Part A, Geotechnical Considerations, and the Simplified Lateral Mechanism Analysis (SLaMA) method. An introductory video is shown below. The course provided an opportunity for structural and geotechnical engineers to work together on assessments of medium-rise concrete buildings and demonstrated the standard expected for reporting assessments and ratings.
